Hi guys, I’m Dr. Marco Navarro here at Mint Orthodontics in Rio Grande City, Brownsville, and Edinburg, Texas, and today we’re going to be talking about restoring certain teeth to their ideal size and shape prior to orthodontic treatment or even during orthodontic treatment.
Sometimes I find that a patient’s teeth haven’t formed correctly. Maybe they’re smaller than they should be overall or maybe it’s just one tooth, like a lateral incisor, which is very common. Or maybe because of their bite, they grind their teeth and have worn them down over time. Whatever the reason, those teeth need to be restored – ideally, before their braces or clear aligner treatment begins, but we can do it during treatment as well if need be.
To do this, we use a process called composite bonding which is a non-invasive procedure where we add layers of tooth-colored composite resin to the tooth in order to create the desired size and shape. The process is painless, requires no anesthesia, and best of all, doesn’t alter the natural tooth structure. Restoring the tooth and giving it the ideal size and shape it should have is not only more aesthetically pleasing but it helps restore proper bite function. When all of the teeth are now formed properly, braces can be put on and the results we are able to give patients have been amazing.
